Default Please bash my first recording

Hi all,
This is my first recording. It's a cover of a lame Christian pop song I did to try and figure out my new recording software. I did all the instrumentation myself. The guitars were done on a Breedlove Pro to two tracks. One Mic'd and the other direct. All the rest was done via a synth/midi controller. The drums were done with BFD. The vocals are mine as well and I recorded them with a Blue 8-ball ($100 condenser mic) in my living room. Please bash away so I can get better at this! Thanks,
Dan

Praise the Lord Jesus Christ!

Piano is too loud, turn it down

Drums are too low and get drowned out when more instruments come in.

I suggest putting an eq on all of your tracks aside from bass guitar and drums and putting a high pass eq at around 180hz.

Vocals need some sort of plate verb to give them a bit more space and presence. Put a compressor on em and fool around with the controls till they work.

Thanks! I'll give the HPF and EQ a shot.

I placed a high pass EQ filter on all tracks except bass and drums at 180hz. This really cleared up some of the muddiness. I'll post a revised version shortly. Vocals are something I haven't figured out yet. My vocals tend to sound flat and thin when recorded. I'll try playing around with plate verb. Thanks again for the feedback.

I think the snare sounds a bit random...at first its like a cat is slapping it with its tail, then it sunddenly gets loud for about 3 hits then goes back down....you need to smack it more.
Is that a modelled piano? Id put some reverb on it and push it back, it sounds like its in front of the vocals. I think your vocals sound quite good, nice and tuneful but they need to be pushed to the front - If it were me I'd probably put a boost somwhere between 1-3 khz depending on ur voice and cut it in the acoustic and piano, about 2-3 db in each.

i think the level of the vocals would be okay if the piano were quieter.

the vocals sound really good! I can't tell it's a budget mic at all. I agree with putting some more reverb on it though.

Also I would try putting some reverb on the drums and see if you like it.

However you could get away with just turning the piano down a little. All in all, I'd say you did a pretty excellent job.

nice song, laid back the way i generally like them. Whats the instrument coming from the right side in the first verse, sounds like a synth pad. You might try it an octave lower as to me it feels like instruments are a bit too seperated and just need something to bring them together on a similair level. I don't think it's a balance problem as i think you've done a good job on it. Can't help thinking strings would be nice in the chorus, not too prominent, but just there.

I agree about the piano, sounds a little cheesy.
The vocals on the chorus are very well tracked and inspiring, as intended I assume.
Drums need a lot of work though, always the hardest part.
Very good start.
