Default This is an original. PLEASE BASH IT TO DEATH!

This is a long one, almost ten minutes. God Bless you if you listen through the whole way. I'm sure you'll enjoy it for content if you're a fan of prog-rock. This one has aspects of 80's Metal, Thrash, Doom Metal, Progressive Rock and Forest Metal. This was recorded a long time ago (minus vocals) so I was behind the game (over a year) skill wise. Brandon, if you get to this one, I'd really appreciate a real nice bashing. I performed one of the guitars and vocals. The rest was done by my respective bandmates.

Thanks so much for listening. If you like the music, we'll have a CD done by the end of summer!

-Greg from Sententia.

i like the music greg. i love the arrangement and the dynamics of the music. the part that i like most is the riff where theres a throat vocal. actually this is a nice tight mix. well for the sake of bashing, sometimes the snare gets lost on the first and second verse. and the guitars(right) hurt a bit on the intro. anyway my thoughts on this are just for fine tuning of the song i think... the mix itself sound nice for my taste. hope this helps greg.

Well you have to listen to most of it or you'll miss that acoustic guitar section. You push the reverb to the limit there don't you? But it's the right sort of ambience for that part. (Can you believe the Firefox spell checker doesn't know consensus or ambience?)

It's a great composition. At first I wondered why the guitars are panned so drastically, but within a minute you hear why. In certain spots, that's what makes it. You have a good band. It sounds like the two electric guitars could have been played by the same person on the same gear. Good vocals too.

I'm not well versed in this style (or combination of styles I should say). I don't even know what Forest Metal is. I was always a fan of prog rock though: Genesis, Yes, PFM, Happy The Man, Crack The Sky, even Kansas. This piece, though it didn't go straight down the fairway, nonetheless made par.

Good job,
KB

Thanks, Brian. I'll work on this. I love the little thrash riff too, it's one of my favorite parts of the song. This is my first mix, I need to go a little harder on the drums and do some drum bus compression.

I appreciate you taking this piece as a whole. I wish I had a huge room to do guitars in. Thanks for the input (p.s. I don't use spell check so I wouldn't know aha).

Thanks for the good word! I always have a problem with different hard panned guitars myself, I'm surprised I pulled it off. I really don't like the guitar tone, but I had no choice. There will be songs off this album that sound a billion times better than others because two were rerecorded. Darren (the other guitarist) and I compliment eachother well, or so we're told! I used a boss GT-8 on the 5150 setting and he used my Marshall Valvestate with a Senny e906.

Forest Metal just accounts for the acoustic part ahaha, it's kind of like older Opeth. Opeth, Pain of Salvation and Anathema are some of our biggest influences.

Love the song.
I'm a big fan of all things prog, including new stuff like Coheed & Cambria and The Mars Volta.
I usually don't like the cookie monster vocals but I can tolerate these.
I really enjoy the spot where the bass guitar stands out - great tone.
The accoustic work sounds great and to me that's where the song really picks up.
The ending is phenominal (I don't use a spell checker BTW). And the counter melodies at the end are awsome.

The Bad: The vocals (non cookie) are way too dry and don't carry well for me.

Questions: How did you track the guitars?

Don't carry well? As in the performance or timbre of the voice is lackluster?

Left Ear: Dean Playmate w/ a vintage Seymour JB and a 1960's (original) PAF in the neck -> Boss GT-8 With 5150 Ctl-Solo Setting DI'd

Right Ear: Les Paul Studio -> Marshall AVT 50-> 5150 Cab -> Sennheiser e906

hey there,

not really my cuppa tea but i like it. I think there could be more bottom end or a boost in the frequencies that make it sound like bottom end through small powered speakers.

Wasn't really into the female vox.

Cheers

Well that was a kick in the balls! The vocals were performed by a male (which happens to be me). I'm a tenor/countertenor.
