Default Orchestral/Prog Rock music discussion

Encouraged by Brandon's email this morning, I am "starting a new thread."

Having been raised on rock and roll, I prefer to listen/compose in the classical/neo-classical genre, as well as progressive/neo-prog genres. In my brief search through the forums here, I've not noticed much in the way of classical composition, recording techniques, etc. If there is, would someone be so kind as to point me in the right direction?

In the "Bash" forums, there isn't even a sub-thread covering either of these genres. Does anyone else here share in a desire to discuss orchestral/orchestral rock/prog rock music? Am I in the wrong place?

Although I have not discussed any other member's song posts as of yet, I've included a Neo Prog song attachment here.

Thanks for your patience with a newbie.

Peace,
Alimar

Comming from a huge prog fan (most styles), I really appriciate this.
Only thing I'd watch is that some of the samples might sound a little cheesy at times - mostly at the very beginning.

Nice, didn't expect the vocals.
Thanks for posting.

I do mostly classical recording - more solo and small chamber groups than anything else, but I do use mostly stereo miking techniques (Blumlein primarily in my #1 recording space, but also Decca in our larger recording space, and M-S, X-Y, ORTF... you name it, I've tried it! Except that Jecklin Disk... haven't tried that one yet).

I work in a great acoustic space mostly with university music school students and faculty.

I enjoy some prog rock stuff too though I haven't really had enough exposure to really know what I like.

I dabble in both. My first CD included a blues-rock interpretation of the second movement of Antonin Dvorak's ninth symphony. I used a moderate amount of orchestration though it's primarily a guitar-driven piece.

My newest CD will be more prog-rock with less orchestration. Besides original material, I'm working on new versions of songs by Kansas and ELP.

It sounds cool. A person could say the reverb added to the drums is a cheesy, but I don't think it sounds better. It certainly isn't natural, but the artificial reverb adds a cool element.

Oh man, now you make me all nostalgic for the 70s.

Good song. Very nice playing, especially the guitar work. On headphones I really appreciate the way you place every element in the stereo image.

The reverb is a bit much, but that's probably just a matter of taste.

Victor.

PS first post. Hi guys.
