Default One I've been working on- Sky.mp3

Sorry for the crappy harmonica patch for the melody again.
I wrote this about 20 years ago. It's a little more driving and energetic than I envisioned but these things take on a life of their own.

Sky, clear as the depth of your eyes.
Deep, as I know are your why's-
reasons you've never supplied.

Night, chasing the life of delight.
living in some unknown guise-
reasons you've never denied.

Trees, breathe like the air of unease.
Bringing me down to my knees-
reasons you've never complied.

Where is the kick drum? Is there one?

What am I hearing with the crash cymbal? It sounds like distortion.

Maybe that was on purpose.

Thanks guys,

I've 'kicked' up the bass drum a bit- you're right Brandon it was buried- I hope I haven't over done it.
Ya think the cymbals were a bit muddy from the reverb on the drums? I have toned back on it.
I don't get the kiddy part. Is it the tone of the rhythm above the travis picking or is it the bass guitar? I tried keeping the bass guitar more on the root before but it put me to sleep.

Thanks again for the insight.

Hi all,
First review here. Anyway, I agree with the "kiddy" statements. I think it's because the midi sounds are very Nintendo sounding. Mainly the organ type sound. Still, that's beside the point because this is the song you wanted to create. The guitar sounds to me as if it is distorting a bit. Possibly you had it a bit hot when you recorded it. The bass drum definitely sounds better now that you've brought it up in the mix. Overall, the mix sounds good to my ears. I don't hear any instrument fighting for space and the stereo imaging isn't awkward. Thanks for posting your work.

I'm not sure I would call it muddy. The crash is clearly distorted. I'd look into that.

The snare is really thuddish and doesn't have any snap and crack to it. I would want a brighter sounding snare for this.
