Default Not exactly a bash this recording...

I've started writing this song, but now that I have the form complete, I'm thinking the chord progression sounds way too familiar.

I figured the best way of finding out what (if ayntihg) it is, is to post here and see if anyone recognizes it.

It's still very MIDI in its sense of feel... just want an idea of where I stole the chord progression.

I don't mind stealing chord progressions when its only a couple of chords, but when its lots, well, it feels like stealing a song.

So, what is it? You get a half verse, double chorus and the ending.

it does sound familiar in a way but it might just be cuz its catchy and it sounds nice. a lot of times when i make up a chord progression it sounds familiar to me for some reason but if i can't find out for sure that its already been done i just go ahead with it anyway and by the time the whole songs done it usually doesn't sound like any other songs that i've heard. i guess my point is i think you should finish it unless you find out for sure that its the same chord progression as a particular song. also if you put the chords together on your own its not the same as stealing a chord progression, if it turns out to already be in a song its more of a coincidence, at least thats what i think.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's a pretty standard Mixolydian mode thing.
Doesn't sound like any particular song yet it's familiar.

Its nothing. Chords dont count for copywrite infringement. I wanted to write an article for this site called "Do u know your copyrights" but I dont think Brandon accepts outside articles. Anyway I hear copyright infringement here and there in pop music demos. It can always be changed a little. However, if someone sues you its up to a court to decide if they think its a rip. I am NOT a lawyer so take this for what its worth.

My issue was not about copyright infringment.

Wow, its one of those songs. Really, it's like a bunch of songs all in one. The first thing that comes to mind is "Shout to the Lord" (yes, the Christian Rock song), then also also parts of it from "School's Out" (the organ solo towards the end of the clip sounds like the "No more teachers, no more rules...." part, especially when the harmony comes in). These two in particular, among some familiar feeling (a good one, mind you, which I believe is an important part of good music).

It passes the test for me. I really had to stretch to think about that.

Thanks folks. Gonna work on finishing up the lyrics and the arrangement.... then I have to find someone to sing it.

Its actually my first time of writing a song with lyrics. I'm more of an instrumentals kind of person.

I'm confused. If you play 12 bar blues. Do you feel like your stealing? Or is it your worried your recording will sound like someone/something else? I dont get it.

My concern was that when people hear it, they say, "oh, that's um.... [fill in name of song here].". Doesn't happen with blues. Doesn't happen with jazz but it does happen in the world of pop and other genres.
