Default No Earthly Idea - Christian rock tune

This is my first try at doing everything myself. I am playing lead guitar and singing. I will put up details of what I did and all the stuff used after you guys get a chance to listen to it.

Sounds like you are a good guitarist. I'm listening to this on computer speakers, but sounds like some compression on the vox and bass would help the balance. You may also want to try putting some room mics on the drums (several feet out in front of them with a pair of condensers) (x/y or spaced pair). In my opinion, this helps glue the drums together.

Thanks Tom. I had mics on the kick, snare, and hi hat, and then had another hanging between cymbals and toms. Our drummer is not very loud (rare complaint, I know) so the hanging mic was not as effective as I'd hoped. I am considering taking the drums out and using ezdrummer to replace them. I will add some compression to the vox and bass like you suggested and see how it turns out.

What's ezdrummer? I am guessing that's a drum program?

I am always the first to scream at the idea of fake drums...
But these drums almost sound like a drum machine....

Try it and see what you get...

I am usually against canned drums as well but EZDrummer is really good and can be a good replacement if the drum tracks are really bad and you don't have time to redo them. here is a sample from EZDrummer that I put together in less than 2 minutes.

Yep, see how you hear that nice stereo room sound in the ezdrummer sample? That's what I'm talking about. Maybe next time... space some room mics out (try to minimize phasing) pan one room mic hard left, one hard right. (I like drummers perspective stereo miking.) Also, you may want to use stereo overheads. You could maybe pan the guitar 50% to 100% left or right, then play the same thing on another track, and pan it the other way same distance. Or, make up some different guitar parts, and pan them left or right... The parts do not have to be complex... This makes the guitars sound nice and full (in stereo).. Especially in the chorus.
