Default Newbie for bashing

These are my covers.

Just a short intro. I'm a one-man "band" called J. this is my home recorded cover of Amon Amarth's The Pursuit of Vikings. Please have a listen and tell me what you think.

This is another cover i did of Opeth's Master's Apprentices. not the entire song, just partial cover.

My band site is at MySpace.com - J - North - Metal - www.myspace.com/jmetalband

I'm listening to The Pursuit of Vikings.

Drums sound good but they are robotic particularly in the velocities. The track grooves, but it sounds like the same sample is being hit over and over. The hihat and ride cymbal (or whatever that is) really gives it away. Both of these elements are pretty damn loud in the mix. That's an issue of subjectivity, but the fact that these cymbals are so bright makes them sound much too loud for my tastes. The excessive brightness/volume kind of throws the whole mix out of wack.

The tom sound isn't doing much for me. Neither is the machine gun sounding kick drum.

Pulling them down just a few dB will go a long way in improving the mix.

Guitars sound good, but are a hair on the fizzy end. This could be considered subjective I guess, but I would probably dip 5K maybe 1-2dB just to see if they get meaner. If not, leave them.
