Default New Mix - Rock. Or Metal. I don't really know what you'd call it, it's just me ;)

Here's a new mix, I have been struggling with it. Sometimes I think it sounds too bassy, other times I don't think the rhythm guitars are defined enough, sometimes I think the lead guitar is too loud, you get the picture. I just need a fresh set of ears. I am fairly certain tho that the open high hat is too, well, spacy. I don't know how else to say it. Timing gets off a bit in some parts, playing is not perfect, but hey either am I. Anyway, take a listen.

Playing sounds pretty good to me...nice tune! Personally I think the lead guitar needs to be dryer, the kick is a little too dominating (not sure about the hi-hats, I thought they suited the tune), & the snare could come up a titch. Overall it sounds pretty good though...well done!

The kick isnt too outfront, everything is just too far back (if you catch my drift). The drums sounds pretty darned good! I think the rhythm guitars need to be widened. The mix is a hair cloudy. What you're doing for the lead definitely works, just not with those rhythm guitars.

Is something out of phase? Don't take this the wrong way but we are missing some crucial frequencies somewhere as if we stuck a mic in a coffee for the overall mix.

Is there any mastering crap on this? If so, immediately take it off.

After listening a second time, I hear that the big mean guitar is center panned but you have doubled the little clean, leadish type of thing. That's backwards in Brandonland or maybe they both should be doubled. I would definitely go back and hard pan the big, mean guitars and double them. That's a start.

What did you use on the guitars? Did you EQ them heavily? There is something sabotaging your mix here and I have a feeling just one button is going to solve it.

I am catching lots of kick drum but not a ton of bass guitar. I think it needs more bass.

The rhythm guitars are already panned hard left and right, the only thing in the center is the bass and drums. Should I record two more rhythm tracks with a different tone setting and also pan those left and right? Otherwise I don't really know how to make the existing rhythm sound more spread out.

I have a plugin on the whole mix called X-cita that I thought was supposed to make everything sound more powerful. Maybe that's what is ruining it? To me the whole mix sounds kinda muddy or cloudy, which someone already mentioned is a problem. Any tips on clearing it up? And what frequencies are missing? I want them back!
