Default Need fresh ears !!!!!

Need some of those good ears to listen and tell me which mix sounds better. I been beating my head against the wall with this remix. Each was finalized with different plugins. Its an older cover I did and I have been messing with it for a few days now. But I am trying some new plugins and I need someone else to give opinions on the one that sounds better. I have my favorite (well they all stink). Let me know yours. The last two I didnt trim and fade the end, so there is a bunch of musical rambling. They are a little bit hotter too. Dont let the loudness sway you. I need the one that sounds best. If the majority like the one I like, then I must be heading in the right direction. Thanks

I like the second one. There are major timing issues in the begining of the the track like latency durring tracking made it a little off.Fix it with beat detective?or? These are either electronic drums or a programed drum track. Whatever they are They sound cheesy. The vocals were nice.guitars were that fizzy buzz sound like when ya go direct with a pod or somthing. There might have been a real miced amp in there.Overall the recording was clean and sounded mixed well but the sound of the individual insrtuments were a little off.I only record real drums, miced up amps,Bass I use a Avalon U5(DI).Cool song! Sterling Sound Studios

Its actual drums. Its just me. Im a guitar player learning to play drums. I sort of stink at times . Guitar was through a gt8. The overall eq and mix was what Im aiming for. My musicianship is bad at times. Thanks for the reply, Hope to get some more votes.

I favor version 3 but in 2 and 3 there are toms near the beginning that sound like they are clipping. Check your levels.

The drums sound great and it sounds like they don't believe you played them?

Thanks. I did this recording a while back. I had set the mixer gains on the drums (mics) to my sons playing. He plays hard. Well I did the drums on this one and I dont hit as hard as him. So the levels were quite low. I had to raise them with my DAW and the quality is crap. But it sounds better than before. I looked at the toms and the kick at the beginning and they are high. I had split the drums tracks and raised the intro beats on the original. I didnt notice that. I like 2 the best. But I dont like any of them. I gonna try and remix another tune. One that has good tracks (level wise). Thanks again.

Sorry, but they are. They dont sound as good as they should because of my stupidity. And me being a newbie. I think maybe a bump in the 65 to 80 range is in order to help the kick and bass

Mix two is my favorite. Whatever you did with the GT-8 in that one was the best, but the overall guitar levels are a little too low for my taste and the bass is too loud. You may have actually performed your high-pass on the guitars a little too far toward the mid side.

I'm not going to lie and tell you I love how the vocals are sitting. They're riding too far on the top for me. Vocals are also a little bit pitchy.

I like the lead guitar tone quite a bit for this particular song.

The drums need more parallel compression. They aren't ballsy enough for my taste.

Bass tone is good for this song, but is mixed a tad loud and could have a little more low end.

I did go back and redo the mixes. Low end was not there as you pointed out. I changed the lpf's too. Im using a controversial tool to help the mix. I figure, if it can help this tune, then it will work great on good tracks. So far most have chosen two. I give this thread a few days and post what I did. PS, Golf balls will go out Wednesday. I need to go to bed. Im tired

The real problem with using any "tool" to help fix a mix, not only being slightly a cop-out, is that it's preventing you from learning to mix and maximize the quality of your recordings yourself. You really ought to mix till you're happy with it and stick on the tool last. I like to mix a song, then reset all the faders/effects and mix it again (I always start from scratch and save the files under different names). This always helps me and I usually get better results with each mix.

Regardless of my opinionated advice: If you stick the tool on last and it makes your good mix sound better, then you have a great mix.

I'm not sure if my first critique was a little harsh, all my friends said I was a bit irritating today. The fact of the matter is, the mix happens to be nice. I think the GT-8 guitars are bringing the mix down, I can tell they're DI. They don't have the nice "cabinet" response a speaker would, and don't thump enough when you're muting them. Tell us a little bit about how you recorded those drums.
