    Default Melodic Black Metal

    Hi there,

I recently got the mic Sennheiser e606, and to test it, I recorded a riff that I developed during the last days, and I wanted to record it anyway.

I used my old little amp Park G10 (10W), and I'm surprised of the Guitar Tone, a bit rough, but I like it. For the drums, I used DFH2.

The Bass Guitar was recorded directly through the MI4 Interface, and a Free Amp Sim Distortion was put on that track.

I have done the drum programming/recording/mixing in less than an hour, I would be pleased by any opinions that could improve my mixing.

    What I used:

    Caparison Dellinger II
    Park G210
    Sennheiser e606
    Steinberg MI4 Interface
    Drumkit from Hell 2
    Ibanez Bass Guitar
    Cubase 5

    Thanks very much

the mud and mids are making this sound not clear. snare is rather boxy, dig out some stuff between 500 and 800. bass guitar needs to be a lot of more clear and it sounds like its masking the kick drum quite a bit. dig into some 400-500 for the mid clarity and somewhere between 150 and 350 for getting rid of the mud. maybe a small notch somewhere between 80 and 150 (where ever the kick has its meat, making room in the bass guitar for that will let the kick cut through better) guitars are a little abrasive, like you added to much above 8k, but i know these are all rather high voiced chords for the most part. they sound a little thin right now because of that. they too could use some mids cut and if you didnt already put a HP filter up to at least 110.

Thank you very much, a worked a bit on the mix, it is a bit brighter now, hopefuly less mud. Yeah, mostly high chords on the Guitar, so I hoped that the Bass does fill underneath.

Thank you for your suggestions, will try some further improvements tomorrow.

the original was better. the roughness suits it
the snare in the new one is too quiet, and its a little too bright, makes it kinda harsh

i think the 2nd version is an improvement. it is considerably more clear. you may have went a little overboard with some of the EQ changes though. the snare is too bright and very thin, it sounds like you dug out too much of its beef, or just added way too many highs. snares need some stuff in the 100-200 area as well as in the mids (~500) or else they sound thin like the 2nd mixs snare. it also deff can come up in volume....its prolly quieter because you took out too many important frequencies. the kick is cutting through so much better, but has a bit of boxy sound still. trying sweeping the EQ around 600-1K to find that offending frequency, it also might need just like 2db cut with a really small Q around 2 or 3k to tame the click thats overpowering the meat. doing that and adding a small boost with a small Q somewhere in the meat regions, prolly 80-125hz will give it some low end that you feel and make it sound bigger. i think it got more clear from the bass guitar clearing up mainly, i think those changes sound good. though the bass guitar could now come up in volume just a hair or may benefit from some heavier compression and/or limiting. guitars also sound more clear. idk if you changes the toms at all but they could also use some clearing up....use the same methods as you did for the other instruments. some mid cuts and a HP filter can make a big difference

hey bro nice tune. Im noticing some phasing issues with the guitars. try using diff cabinets for left and right or maybe cut around 4-7k.

The bass is definitely less muddy, but still kind of hard to hear...and you have this huge gap between bass and guitars to fill...I would recommend bringing the volume up more...maybe add some distortion or fuzz to it to get it to cut through and have some more presence? If you did that and it took away to much of the low end oomph (as bass fuzz can definitely do) you could layer it with the original.

As for the guitar tone, I could go for either version. They're both rough in a neat way I think.
