Default I Am (not a cover and not on Ukulele!!)

I actually wrote a song awhile back and forgot all about it.. It's just acoustic guitar as usual. Thought I'd try putting something that's not on the ukulele for change! Mix it up a bit.. Needs a solo or some other instrumentation. but this is what we got so far..

    Cheers!

Oh Yum! A delicious dark croony ballad...
"love in my heart and scars in my eyes..."
This is such a great song, I had to listen to it several times coz I was listening with my heart and not my head
Which is not a baaad thing I hasten to add...
It could be great to have the intro and outro 'tidied' up a little, as you start up and wind down. Lovely guitar sound... hmmm, I do LIKE your guitar heh heh... it has such nice LOW notes and an ability to sustain and sing, that the chirpy little uke doesn't have. (te he)
I did notice a touch of sibilance at around 1.09 - 1.25 and again when those words were repeated at around 3.00 and I wondered whether it was accentuated by the reverb? I had to listen several times before I noticed it though as I was caught up in the moment

yep the vocals are a little hot in the high mids. did you add a little in that area with eq? pull a little out of there with you eq and i would sit in with the guitar nicely as well as not be as sibilant. nicely done otherwise. the guitar sound is really quite sweet. how are you recording that? (mic, position, room, etc)

I hear that too redworks.. I do usually boost around 5k and 7 or 8 k.. It just seems so muddy without it and like I told emma sometimes it works and sometimes not so much.. maybe it just the way i sing different songs.. and of course if there aren't too many s's.. as far as how i record.. I sit down and have two rode nt5's in xy.. usually about 10 or 12 inches away.. aimed slightly towards the bridge especially if im fingerpicking.. I have no nails so it can be bassy.. then into my digimax fs and a little verb..that's about it..
    thanks again,
    Cheers!

Thanks so much Emma! I think everything thing I do could use a little tidying up It does have some hot ssss for sure.. I think either my computer or cubase drinks when Im not around cuz I try leaving everything the same but sometimes it comes out hotter than other times.. I'll try pulling some of the highs down a bit see if I can clear that up.. You know what it really needs is some nice dark piano..HINT HINT! don't know if you be up for any kind of collaboration... but that would be cool! but no worries if your not into it, I understand completely.. thanks again for the awesome response!
    Cheers!!

hmm music to make love too volume 1 ?

I ran into a childish version of this kinda tune on the Jersey shoreline.

Kinda bass heavy. Is that the overtone- of the guitar or a reverb I hear ?

Great tune! Love it. Great guitar sound, love your voice. Would love to hear a full band version, although it certainly stands beautifully as it is. Nice!

I've been accused of this before!

I guess there's a couple of boomy spots, but I don't think i'd call it bass heavy.. maybe my ears are shot probably is the reverb...

Yep, I'm having fun with the piano! It just takes me a wee while coz I have to 'know' the song before I can work it and there are some tricksy little subtle bits tucked away in the corners ... It is a lovely song... will see what I come up with and then, you may hate it anyway, but fun to try out

You do some cool chords in there, I'm finding it very interesting coz I don't 'know' chords, I just sort of 'feel' them and while I can work out the root chords, I rely on an intuitive thing to fit in. Very non scientific ha ha.. But it is a very magical thing to be able to work musically around the globe

I'm about to go on summer break (teacher), so I'll have some time if you all really want to do something. If you do, I have some organizing questions:

    1) Do you want to work with the tracks you have or start from scratch?
    2) Did you play these to a click?

I'd be happy to do drums and whatever else you'd like.

Here is a pdf chart of the chords--sadly I am less than intuitive, but overly trained. Anyway, it will go faster if we agree on the structure. This is pretty much the way you played it, minus all those fancy guitaristic adornments.

Okay, I give up on the pdf.

If a chord chart would be helpful, shoot me an email at bvadrums@gmail.com and I'll send it to you.

that recording sounds perfect to my just starting out ears! just the right clarity and reverb. i'm new at this so i'm not sure of the technical aspect, but as a singer, you rock! thanks Teresa Eden
