MySpace streaming tracks get converted to 96kbps mp3 compression. The downloadable tracks are 128kbps.

So if you upload, say, a 192kbps mp3 to MySpace, it's getting uncompressed from your 192kbps file, then recompressed to lower quality mp3 settings to save bandwidth and space.

Another place you can upload recordings before you share them here is:

HeartheGear.com: Audition Recordings, Upload Gear Tests, Recording Gear Shootouts

It's a site specifically designed for uploading recordings and telling what gear & techniques you used to make those recordings. You can host files there and then link to them and discuss them here.

This may be a very stupid question - is it ok to upload covers of songs. (thinking copyright issues)
As well as my original stuff, I've been recording and mixing my covers bands demo - the only feed back I get is from the band but it's sometimes not helpful in the fact they can hear what may be wrong but can't say what they think needs doing to fix it?

Cheers
Zeek

The rules are "don't do anything illegal". With that in mind, go ahead. You aren't charginng any money and uploading here is for educational purposes. I'm 99% sure the worst that can happen is get an email that says take them down. No big deal. Knock yourself out.

Right now some server in Latvia has zillions of gigabytes of movies like Transformers 2. They aren't worried about us right now.

Do you have any problems posting? There permissions are no different for a person posting as they are for attachments. What browser are you using?

Hey Brandon....
This is a great site. Thank you....

I'm amazed by some of the talent and how they produce these songs. I'm the only dumb one on here, I guess. When I try to submit a recording and "browse", it takes me only as far as "iTunes Library" or "Windows Media Player", as though I can upload the whole damn library.....but I can't see how to upload a single song from it.

Any thoughts to help out a dumb guy ??
