Default Fresh Meat

Hi! Just registered to the forum, really just in hope of finding out better recording techniques, software, mastering etc. You know the drill.

Anyway, I've recently recorded a track and I'm basically just looking to see what I need to do next. I've never really known how to properly adjust and master a track, I usually just eq a few parts and maybe put in a compressor. But other than that my recordings stay raw.

So really any comments on anything on this track on what's wrong/right with it would be appreciated.

Drums are DFHS, guitars are pod xt live (DI into computer mic input haha) and the bass is just the midi rse from guitar pro with guitar rig 3 over it.

SoundClick artist: Clowsh - 7 string progressive technical sludge metal from maidenhead

Enjoy!

*Edit* It's called Elements

*Edit2* Just uploaded the mp3 into here.

First up great track! Gonna bookmark this and listen to the other tracks tomorrow, if they're up to this standard you could be onto a winner.

Production wise, everything sounds ok - except the guitar tone - a bit too fizzy and too much in the upper mid sort of area, what amp model and cab do you use?

Other than that though, good work!

EDIT: - I should add, I'm talking about the heavy guitar tone, the cleans sound great.

Ahhh thaanks glad you liked it!

About the distorted guitars, it's an odd tone really. I really liked the way it sounded as a whole, but for some heavier riffs it just seems to sound kinda empty.

I'm glad that you've noticed it and told me, means I get to sit down and re-tweak.

I used the Line6 Big Bottom amp model and the screamer stomp

I am done going outside of here to listen to songs. If you want more people to listen, post an MP3 here. I went there and got a pop up this is the last time I do that.

I have to agree with MetalDave on this one. I've been trying for ten minutes to open it but still haven't got to listen yet.
It's actually easier to upload the file here.

I wouldn't consider soundclick a bad place to put songs - I agree that it is easier to put them up here but whatever, are you sure the popup wasn't the soundclick player? it tends to open in a new window.

are your tracks panned? it seems like they are all center which makes them sound competing. i do like the way you aren't just playing typical hardcore riffs and kind of playing progressive

Actually just about everything in this track is doubled up left and right haha. Someone else told me the same thing once actually, maybe it's more noticeable through headphones.

Glad you liked it anyway, gotta love all the prog stuff

Actually, I'm real glad you got it posted up here so I could listen. (I had trouble before but it wasn't the popup killer).
Anyway, great song. I really dig the beat here. Sound like you are working a few different time signatures?
As far as the recording, it sound flat. I would look for much more dynamic range in a track like this. Did you compress the hell out of it? If so can you post a version with the compressor bypassed? Maybe it's the audio interface. You really should spend the cash on a audio interface. Even something USB. You'd be amazed at the difference vs running into your mic input on a standard PC soundcard.
