Not bad at all for a first run through. That's a great band & great song to do! Come back to it when you can lay it down through a digital work station. Stuff like Tascam 144's come with recording software like Cubase & you can start using some tricks to fine tune it. Keep at it, recording is great but the playing always comes first & you guys are off to a great start!!

Try Reaper - It's free to trial & there are no time limitations on the trial ... even so,a non-commercial licence only costs $50 & it will do just about everything (& then some) that the big-name stuff will do - It comes with heaps of free plugins too.

Well - you'll find some healthy criticism on this site at times, but it is always respectful and validated. For the most part though - we're all musicians just trying to record our tunes - whether we know how to do it well or are just learning. The feedback will almost always be about the recording itself rather than the tune. As it should be. Hence the name 'RecordingReview.com'.

With that said - I thought overall the two of you have the potential to work well together. For many parts of the song - the timing of your harmonies was good - but other times you were off.

Also - towards the later part of the chorus when the vocals go to the lower notes - you tend to sound a bit flat. If you are doing a cover tune and you can't hit the notes like the original - change it up a bit so that it fits your voice. In other words - if you are following the tune exactly note for note and you start to sound out of key in a particular part - just change to something you can hit - but that is still in tune with the melody. Nothing wrong with that. Actually - I'd prefer that in a cover.

Now - like the other guys mentioned - there is another whole world awaiting you guys if you get the right recording gear. This site is the perfect place to learn about what to get and not have to spend a ton of cash.

Study up on this site - save up (if needed) and get just a few pieces of equipment that will allow you to record digitally. You'll be amazed at how your instruments and vocals can sound with a little tweaking.

It's cool that you posted this. I liked it and want to hear more from you dudes.

Ok... The reason hardly anyone is commenting is because provision is actually made on this site for you to upload high quality mp3 files directly, so when members see no file & just a link to Myspace or worse - Youtube, most just skip it because they don't see it as someone who is serious about getting an appraisal that takes into account all the clearly stated aims of "Bash This Recording" to wit:
Quote:
Songwriting, performances, recording, and mixing will all be judged.
To back that up, have a read of this: Getting Started With Bash This Recording
... & this: Review A Tune Or Two Before Posting
I'm sure if you post your tune as an attached mp3 you'll get more responses.
All the best.

thank you dberry good review. we found most of those same problems ourselves so thanks for validating.

fHumble your right because i do the same thing usually when i see a link. i tried attaching it though and i couldn't do it because its a .wma file (just the standard "record a sound" that comes on windows) and not an mp3. I also couldn't attach just the video itself, i tried that last night thinking it'd be better than a link.
