first post
Thought I`d post an Easter type of song called "The Garden".....always had an idea it might work in some kind of musical ....guess that`s been done a long time ago with Webber/Rice though....what the heck...I`ll throw it up there and you can bash away.
Cheers!

Re: first post
Hey Ron.....
Nice tune! For me it has a cool kinda Supertramp vibe rather than a song for a broadway show?
I was always waiting for something to happen with the dynamics, for a full backing to come in (maybe with those great harmonies at the end - you know, for about 15-20 seconds then gone and back down to piano and vocal)) - but maybe thats the surprise??
I think the double tracking on the vocals works in the choruses - but perhaps you could drop it in the verse to add depth to the choruses - and also maybe a different reverb that is more subtle and enhances the voice?
Overall though - I think you got the feel right and I like the lyric a lot!!

Re: first post
Here's some comments from another Tony!

Agree, the song has an Elton John - John Lennon - Supertramp vibe. Nothing wrong with that. Nice tune, melody, etc.
Good harmonies. I agree with the other Tony, I'd go with less vocals effects on the verses. You need to leave room for some dynamics, especially leading up to a chorus. Maybe add a bridge before going into the final choruses.
I'd also brighten up the piano a bit. It sounds very raw. Maybe a little verb and maybe some eq in the area of 500 hz and 5Khz.TonyB

Re: first post
Thanks so much Tony and Tony for your advice....never had much confidence in my vocals so I always seem to pad them up with "doubling...reverb, etc. I don`t have the "effects" thing down very well but am working on it. Hope you enjoyed the listen.
Cheers!

Re: first post
Ron your stuff is beautiful. Just gotta get your sound down. It seems murky. what would happen if the piano sound had no reverb on it, and no wierd eq. and if the vocal had just a TINGE of reverb but other than that totally straight with no eq.WE want to hear the real you.also I would like to collaborate with you. so if you're interested send me a private message, please, and we can work on something.

You sHOULD have confidence in your vocal. Its wonderful.Your vulnerability is a STRENGTH remember. Vulnerability that shows on the voice let's the audience empathize, which is so important to making a connection.

Re: first post
Some think that doubling shouldnt sound like doubling per se, but rather that it build one BIG vocal. Your pretty good at doubling but not subtle enough for the doubling to be invinsible. there's other things that you can do to build up your arrngement without doubling a vocal. I learned this the long way. try to get addicted to doing the raw thing, again its better for the audience-and a way for you to appreciate your own vocal more. Hey, when your in a room talking or singing there's NO reverb really, unless your in a church. Why compromise that truth with baggage attached to a vocal line. LIBERATE youe sounds from reverb, thn yuour sounds will be for Adult Contemporary and REALLY WILL BE CONTEMPORARY.
