Default First Fracture - On My Own

Here's a recent single and preview of a band's album that I am recording.

It was mixed by myself, and mastered by Danny Danzi.

Both he and I think the auto-tune is a little lame during the verses, but the band asked for it so ultimately it's their call. I am interested to know what you guys think?

Anyways, this is the final mix, enjoy.

Am I a mean old bastard if I don't dig the mastering job? There's this mid-low lump through the whole thing that's wrecking havoc with various elements. Have a listen to the guitar lead at 2:04 and you'll hear where that trouble spot is, frequency-wise.

Other than that, your mixing and recording are excellent and you got great stuff out of the band. Good work, Adam.

I'll check that out when i get home to the monitors.

    Thanks though!

BUT! Do you hate the auto-tune in the verses or not? That is the key question!

No. Due to my current gig, I'm listening to a lot of praise and worship music these days that goes that way. Didn't seem un-idiomatic.

I agree. I think the auto-tune is very cheesy sounding. Everything else sounds really good though. Good work.

Hey Adam, this mix is sounding very good. I'm in the "obvious autotune hate club", so yeah, I dislike the vocals very much. I can't understand why a singer would want to sound like that, but maybe that's just me. The only thing that bugs me about the mix is the kick drum - it just doesn't seem to integrate into the mix very well & sounds kinda "stuck on"... I had this problem with my most recent mix. The problem was that the kick was played a little inconsistently in intensity, so while some hits sounded perfect, others stuck out a mile... standard compression & eq. just wouldn't help it, but parallel compression was just the ticket - it gave really body & consistency to the sound.

I know it's been said numerous times but the 'autotune effect' really needs to die. It's the auditory equivalent of using 15 condoms instead of 1, in that it stops the listener feeling anything.
Solid mix. The drums kick and toms sound a bit too clicky to me, but that's really a taste issue and I'd say the numbers are on your side on that score.

Agreed, but the band asked for it so I am required to oblige.
