Default Fate

First attempt recording this song...been in my head over 10 years.
Bass/kick drum sidechained
Vocals - default light tuner help...sorry about the "p" "t" and "s" areas..
Pans and volume adjusts is all really done to it, with some editing for acoustic to heavy transitions, alot needs to be done next recording time around.

For mastering trying the Multiband Comp/Stereo Enhancer/Maximizer from Cubase 5.

The vocal efx were a little much.I like more of a dry vocal but thats just me.The heavy parts sound like a seperate song from the acoustic stuff like two songs pasted togather. The electric guitars were buzzy and thin the acoustic sounded like a di only. The mix was full untill the distorted guitars came in then it thined out.I would leave the acoustic in during the distorted parts just pull it back or bring up the bass cause the bottom falls out when the e guitars come in.I like all the vocal harmonys. This needs a little better mix and some eq changes.

Thnx for taking the time to listen and reply...

I need to kick myself in the butt with the vocals, I know I need to lay off the effects pre and start learning to apply them post, and/or at least less mix of the chorus. Also singing the part twice adds even more chorus type modulation to it naturally.

I worried about the parts fitting together, the first parts of the song I am gonna take out and make into its own.

sigh......I just cant seem to dial those guitars in using di, I have not really been happy with any of the sounds, heavy and soft, gonna really take a harder look at things.
I mean I really like the Line 6 UX2 but, but I am feeling/hearing the limitations I think.
Gonna mic the crate half stack and try to get better heavy/soft guitar sounds.
I must also try the acoustic guitar unplugged, I have no excuse but laziness for not trying the other techniques.

I wasnt sure about leaving the acoustics in or not for the heavy areas, guess I was trying to treat it how I would have to perform it live, but I need to get that "pick click" out of it first, its horrible.
Thnx again so much....you rock for taking the time.
Back to the drawing board...

I use a pod for my direct guitars, usually just two guide tracks(pod) when I am recording the basic tracks then mic up a couple of different amps and then then blend them. You have to be tight with your parts though. That gives a nice convincing fat guitar tone.On the acoustic I run it di and mic it with a Rode nt5 about 8" from the hole.I have lots of high end mics but the Rode nt5 is great sounding everytime.I usually crank the amp pretty loud and mic it from a few feet away for a big open sound or low volume close up with a 57 between the cone and the edge of the speaker. The Rode nt5 is a cheap killer little mic.I listened to a few post on here with great sounding acoustic guitars and they all said they used the Rode Nt5.You can check out my little setup at Sterling Sound Studios Cheers!
