Vocal is too brite/harsh/high in the mix. Less drumverb, please.

I like a good hair metal song. On second thought, the drumverb is very 1988 and enjoyable in that way. Smiley-curved mastering is also right on target for the oeuvre.

Definitely not! Sounds fabulous! I listened to it twice, trying to be really critical & I couldn't pick on anything. Well done!

A/B it with a Hansen/Whitesnake/Nelson/White Lion/Warrant. That'll help you get your bearings of where the vocals should sit in this mix.

I can't quite listen loud enough to give an opinion on the vox although I could see how they could get shrill. Don't forget to listen to "Fire House" Maybe consider listening to Hansen as an act of desperation.

I appreciate how wide your mix is and how everything is kind of separate but in a good way. I tend to fill this space in a bit more but am trying to stop when it is appropriate.

Over all this is very well done

Bravo
Paul

Firehouse! That's who was in my head! It is funny to think of using a cassette as a reference recording. I just has that feel all around in a very convincing way. The rest of the mix seems very in order except for the overly proud vocals: which are almost a welcome change to the "ashamedly bury the vocal in the mix" style of the day.

Thanks guys

I think I might try a different approach on this one. I'm gonna try to get everything closer/punchier. Gonna try a mix with almost no reverb and see how it sounds, I'll post it later

Ok I did a few things here, hopefully for the better

vox down a bit and less hyped on the high end

- reamped the guitars and used a room mic for reverb instead of fake reverb

- pulled down the bass a bit, kick up, tried to get some of the mud out of the mix

Tried to get it a little more garagy sounding than hansen 1994 sounding.
