its good man. i think there is too much low mid on that snare cuz it sounds boxy. and the kick might have a tad to much presence. country seems to have a really subtle kick
Before I did this, about the closest I got to listening to country was buying an Eagles album... so I'm a real novice in this genre...Here is my work in progress - any criticisms welcomed, & any tips greatfully received... please - let it rip & have no mercy!!!

Excellent comments - I agree ... In fact, on listening back this morning, I was going to critique my own mix! I'd add that now, to me the vocals sound a little dull.i think there is too much low mid on that snare cuz it sounds boxy. and the kick might have a tad to much presence. country seems to have a really subtle kick
Thanks for commenting.

The kik and snare on this tune is make or break IMO.I think like a ac/dc back in black album sounding kik is perfect for this tune, that's what I was shooting for.
Your snare has too much beef for a country tune. You have that "Paradise City" sounding snare, killer sound, just not for this.
I'm sure your final mix will be very good, your original material is some of the better stuff on here.I always look out for yours and Zeddas post,I know I will hear something original.
Yeah, I guess I was reacting to the whimpy sounding "side stick" of the original track... I typical fashion I think I've gone way over-the-top... I really don't think I've got my drums / music mix anywhere near right on this tune yet....hmmm...grrrr....Your snare has too much beef for a country tune. You have that "Paradise City" sounding snare, killer sound, just not for this.

A great producer gave me the tip on the kik sound for this type of country.I created a track for a better sounding intro sidestick, then I used a different snare when the tune kicks in to full gear.
I used brandons bottom snare as is and eq'd it and compressed it and blended it with his top and one of my own snare samples.
Just listen to Toby Keith,Keith Urban,Brad Paisley and those productions to get a sense of what is happening in todays country.
Or Taylor Swift....mmmmmmm...yum......ok, enough of that....
I hadn't occured to me to add samples. I wonder if I can replace the whole piano track.
don't really care for the Kontact sample.
This sounds pretty good to me.
You're right - they've all got that "side-sticky" sounding snare thing happening (albeit with a little more meat than the raw track). BTW RD, Keith Urban grew up here in Brisbane... I saw him live about 15 years ago (for free) before he was known in the US. I can't say I'm a fan of his music but he is one AWESOME guitarist who can really throw down live!Just listen to Toby Keith,Keith Urban,Brad Paisley and those productions to get a sense of what is happening in todays country.
Thanks, but I think I'm becoming more and more dissatisfied by the minute...This sounds pretty good to me.

Theres a whole lotta "thunk" around the 200hz area on the snare. Thats the first thing that really caught me. And the hats sound too aggressive when they open up around 2:00 imo. The acoustic guitar off to the left sounds kinda clicky at times. Everything else sounds pretty good to me! Theres my 2 cents. Take it or leave it lol![]()
I wholeheartedly agree with everything you say there - I've been trying to put all the great advice I've gotten here into action... so please give my new mix a listen & tear it to shreds again... here 'tis...http://forum.recordingreview.com/f79...03/#post177688Theres a whole lotta "thunk" around the 200hz area on the snare.
