Hmm, there is a considerable amount of mud in the mix. It just seems cloudy and unclear. um, I am no guitar expert, but I would mess with your amp settings, sucking out more of the low end/bass in the guitars. Also, bring the drums up in the mix. from what I can hear, there is no definition in the drums either. Overall, good first mix though. Some things need to be worked out before your next session. |

Agreed on all points... I am at a newbie when it comes to tracking/mixing drums, I am learning a lot but still way off. As for the guitars, I got denied when I asked to mess with the tone of the amp... the guitarist is very picky and likes a rediculous mid-scoop (10 on bass, 0 on mids, 10 on treble) which is very hard to get some of the mud out. Plus, he uses a Crate combo am run through a 4x12 speaker cab, which I am guessing may be a little unconventional. I am working on EQing things in the guitars a little to see what can be done and to let the bass breathe a little. I was wondering about the drum levels, if they were buried a little, thanks for the insight, I really appreciate the help!! gabe |

Ouch. thats rough. I don't have too much experience producing different people, so maybe brandon or someone else could help you out with dealing with your picky guitarist. |

from what i hear, the drums and the guitar alternate being buried and muddy at different times. and you're definitely correct about the guitarist's amp being all screwed up. sounds to me like the overheads are pretty muddy, even though rode nt5's should be just fine. Quote:
sorry for being so brutally honest, but this is bash the recording. sounds to me like you've got a lot of potential. keep it up. |

I'm listening to "Untitled". The kick is pretty damn meaty. It's probably a bit too meaty. The toms strike me as sounding kinda boring. That's usually a tough one to fix. You can try scooping out 400Hz from them, but I think the problem was in the drums themselves. You may try a high pass filter on the electrics to make a bit of room. Brandon |
