Default Candies Gone Bad take 2

I did this a while back. But I have decided to remix all the old crap I did, a little at a time. I have a new mixing environment and things sound different now. So a remix is warrented. But you cant polish a turd. Anyway the mix sounds a little better than before. I tried some reverb on the finished product. I usually dont use reverb, but maybe on a few tracks. But I liked it on this one. Yes the intro is long but, I wanted to keep it close to the original. Bash away !!!!!

I'm not sure if the 0:45 second intro did anything for me. It didn't make sense to me to do a big build up via the speeding up noise just to do another big build up with the band. That's an arranging thing and maybe you had no say in that matter.

The overall vibe is 1987. If you want it to sound like 1987, you've done very well. If you wanted 2008, you didn't do so well. I'll let you decide.

I'm not happy with the vocal sound. I can tell what you were going for, but I think you either have too much or not quite the right kind of reverb. I think we crossed over from "cool effect" to starting to sound like a 1991 demo.

There are a few ways to fix it. It's possible the reverb is simply too loud and needs to be turned down. It's possible that you have too many early reflections in there or not enough pre-delay. All of these are a major factor. The last two will have a huge impact on the "cloudiness" and "clarity" of the vocal and the lyrics will come out way clearer even with the ambiance you want.

I noticed you said "Bitch" in there so his song is probably funny or at least has lyrics worth listening to in my opinion. I would make an effort to make those more obvious (and volume isn't necessarily the problem).

The vocals I always seem to try and process them too much. Trying to make my shiity singing better. The verb I'll fix, along with the multi vocal tracks (delayed and panned differently) and see how they sit. The intro is a pain, but was on the original "The Godz" version of the song. I'll ditch it and redo the mentioned effects. Thanks for the input. I may need to just redo the tracks. They were done a while back and not performed as good as they could have been. It is rather messy. Thanks again.

Well, I don't think intentionally shooting yourself in the foot on the engineering side is gonna help with your talent level any. I come from the opposite school where I tend to mix too dry. A trick I discuss in my upcoming home recording book is to compensate for your own tendencies. I put WAY too much reverb and delay on a vocal right when I get started. Over time I incrementally pull it down 1dB at a time. I usually end up closer to where I want to be than if I start with no reverb and work my way up.

You may want to try the opposite. Start dry and boost a little reverb and/or delay as you go.

Good advise. I hope to get back into my studio tomorrow and redo it. But the kids keep me hoppin most of the day.
