Default Both Feet in

As I said in my intro I may just be a little in over my head here but any road ere is an offering for a Bashing .Be gentle. Its not the sort of music you young 'uns will probably like so a more senior ear may have a differing opinion..... it's called No Vice......

I think that I may have stumbled into this and got in a bit out of me depth.

I dint realise there were so many good tunesters and so many sound recordists out there who were so bloody good.

I seem to only be playing at this recording lark compared to some of what I've listened to already but bugger it I am only doing it for a bit of a laff. Just as a hobby so to speak. But I do want to do it well so bear wi'me . See yer later.

Try raising your computer monitor so that it eye level.

I'm not thrilled by the rumble in the drums. If you are applying the reverb, I'd use a compressor with a slow attack 50-100ms to kick in after the attack has passed by and knock some of that rumble down.

I'm guessing this is some kind of drum machine. Is there any way you can play around to make the performance more human by adjusting velocities and timing?

I'm not sure how you did it, but the organ sounds like it's coming from about 5 feet to the left of my left speaker. That's actually kind of cool. If it were me, I'd see if I could make the organ fit panned center. It may not.

I alwyas struggle with panning of instruments like this. I like to get an instrument out of the center when possible to make room for drums, bass, and vocals but there are times when hard panning can be distracting.

Play around with it and see if you like the organ better in the center.

You're spot on ,drum box come mixer. Its all recorded on a Zoom MRS8 and recorded via line and no mic. Then a bit of tinkering with in Cubase VST. Is that a problem or a cheat ? It is eminently more practical in a small house.

I don't think I understand what you mean by adjusting the velocities and timing of the drums ....showing ignorance time for me....and the manual is pretty useless on that subject too .

But I will do a remix of the tracks and see what we come up with, thanks for your input.

The only "cheating" is when you cheat yourself by conforming to some set of rules.

MIDI measures the intensity of how hard a note is hit. If you could adjust the velocity, there would be some natural variation in the drums and would sound less fatiguing.

Timing is just what it says. If you could play with the groove a little bit and add some natural variation to the parts, they would also be less fatiguing.

Sorry to have taken so long to reply to this but got involved with something called work, apparently if you don't do it the beer tokens stop.Anyway I have messed around a bit with this load of tripe .Can't seem to much about the drums humanizingwise ( is that a new word there ?) but have repanned the instruments a little and knocked some of the equalisation off (in fact must confess I don't what I'm doing with the Eq yet)the rhythmn guitar.I think it sounds a little crisper, it certainly does straight out of the box but MPing might change it a little... Feel free to bash away and I'll go and have a gander at the other places tro see and do around here.

Oh if you get two MP3s blame it on my computer as it managed to lose the first reply that I tried to post.......

The drums are a little robotic, but it seems okay.
