Nice song, you have a really good voice! Nothing really to criticise about that .

My only concern is with the guitar. Is this an electro-acoustic guitar direct connected to your audio interface? I always prefer the sound of mic'd up acoustic guitar. If it was miced then for me it sounds a bit boomy and bassy. I think I can also hear some clipping on it, although this might be caused by a distortion effect? Actually, that makes more sense, are you running an acoustic through some sort of effects pedal / box? I tend to prefer the clean sound but that is just me.

Anyway, great work, keep it up.

EDIT: Upon a second listen, I think that the vocal might have a tiny bit too much reverb, but then that is more of a personal taste thing .

Yes you have a great voice, and the vocal/guitar performance I think is very good. For the recording/mixing part, I'm hearing clipping/distortion on both guitar and vocal, primarily 2:00-2:30. You may want to watch your meter levels and see if they are peaking digital 0. Both vocal and guitar tracks need low-pass EQ, and the guitar needs at least a little high-pass to cut some of the boominess (especially prominent on direct acoustic input). You may have to cut some EQ notches below the low-pass to control the vocal and guitar piercing/harsh frequencies (some of this may be related to the clipping/distortion though, so maybe solve that first). What microphone did you use for vocals?

What reverbs are you using for vocal and guitar? The guitar seems to have some phase/artifacts from digital reverb (pebble dropped in a well). Also from 1:38-1:46 it almost sounds like there is an organ part way in the background, but I think that is some of the artifacts. The vocal reverb space is a bit big (or too much input), for this I'd keep it more intimate, and the reverb tail is too long (2-3 seconds?).

Thank you both for excellent criticism, you both have really good ears! and superb technical knowlege, this was recorded over 10 years ago on a small, cheap pioneer cd recorder which is obsolete! I now record from my computer using various tools, modern technology is wonderful! what I am really interested in learning from you guys is the technical aspect such as sir stan halen was mentioning, EQ I wish I had a standard guide to go by, men seem to definitely be quicker at learning the technical. Hi there Teresa,
Great singing -lovely voice - I enjoyed listening! As Stan says, there's some clipping going on with the levels and it could be fun to play around some with the eq and reverb. There are some lovely vocal nuances happening that feel a little buried away, it would be great to maximise the clever cruisy inflections in your voice... am guessing that would need more space in the mix, carved out with the aforementioned tools
So what gear are you working with now?? And have you downloaded and begun to absorb Brandon's free pdf Killer Home Recording: Setting Up - It has great descriptions of all the basic gear/techniques that I found to be an awesome help (and still refer to from time to time when my brain feels particularly lame! )

Cool!!! Another lady in the boat!

I really enjoy your vocals. There is a nice 70ies touch to it. As others, the guitar is the "not so good" sound here. It's maybe just due to the tracking and not really the mixing. The guitar performance just fits the voice, so it's just about the sound for me. There is probably too much reverb or effect on the guitar. A more raw sound would maybe suit it better.

Don't be affraid to throw up a mic or two and just go at it. You won't learn until you try. You have a great voice, now you just need to practice to learn to capture it to tape. Kudos!
