    Default Blues + Metal

    Okay...

Please give me tips, comments, or whatever you can on my mix & master.

It has that blues/rock'n'roll feel, but more of a metal production. I did drums, guitar, bass, and all the fun engineering. This is kind of 'just a test,' to see what I can do.

Any suggestions are welcome. BTW, I personally think the guitars need to come up just a few db.
Also, I've been practicing the drums for this at a way higher tempo: 100, compared to like 80 or whatever it's at now.. but please, please, any comments, suggestions, or bashings -- go for it!

    Sounding pretty good!

The snare sounds like it could do with a little more "body" & fatness round the 100-200hz mark. Maybe you could cut a little bit of sub from the bass, not too much though.

The guitar sounds are good - my only comment would be that the playing is a bit rushed - it tends to be pushing ahead of the beat, so the groove isn't as relaxed, wide & cool as it could be.

Additionally, the bass playing is way too busy, & again, not relaxed enough to really lay into a nice groove...

With some decent vocals & some wailing lead, you could make a pretty wicked sounding metalish/blues tack... nice one.

Thinking of some AC/DC tracks as i listen to this.I quite like it.

I agree with most of what Fhumble said. The sub bass is pretty heavy on the system i listening on and that's with the bass adjustment at the lowest it will go.I didn't mind the heavy bass, just maybe not that much.

I understand about the groove as well after a few listens. It almost sounds like the track doesn't know if it wants to go faster or slower,
it sounds like its somewhere in the middle.Obviously your going for a faster pace? that's why you mentioned your practicing the drum beat at a faster tempo.

You've got a kick ass track here in my opinion, wouldn't mind hearing the finished product when your done.

Im also wondering if theres any chance you can chuck the whole track up for a better listen, ive listened to it a few times already because its only 1:03 long, and everytime i want it to keep going lol.

Is there much more of the track,2-3 minutes worth?

    Cheers

Sounding good, I like the riffs that you have put together. Personally I would be interested in hearing this at a slightly higher bpm too, not that the song is dragging or anything I just think it would add a little more to the overall feel.

On my setup the guitars feel like they sit well in the mix, but I do agree with fHumble fHingaz that the bass part feels a little busy for the rest of the song. This may become even more audible if you put down some vocals with this, a simplified bass part may play nicer with the vox.

I'm digging the track, wish there was more to listen to

Mean mother of a bass sound you've got there, love it.

    Agree, you need more guitars.

It all sounds like it was recorded separately, and to get that "band" feel you need some reverb induced glue. Set up an FX track/send with a reverb on it (hi pass EQ in the chain after the reverb to about 500hz) and AUX send all the other tracks to that FX track at teh same volume (a little less send volume on bass and kick than on the other instruments). Then tweak the volume until it sounds like things are gel'ing - switch reverbs a few tiems and see what you like. I personally prefer a small room type verb on most things.

Will upload new version of this soon. Spent last 3 days trying to get a guitar tone I liked.. because what u hear there is just 1 Sennheiser e906. But now I'm using e907 + sm57 .. i'm still not truly satisfied with what I'm getting, but I don't know where to go from there.

Yes, there's more than that. Actually like 2 minutes and 30 seconds long.. but I re-recorded the entire thing at a waaaay faster tempo... +20 actually... which really shortened the song, now it's only like 2 minutes... but it's so much better faster..

If it sounded odd, maybe it was because I was playing to a click track? And sometime click tracks are crazy to play to. Anyhow.. I played the new version to a click track, at a tempo of 100, then I did drum editing with Pro Tools 10.2, seperated before every transient, and then quantized everything.. well.. didn't quantize the overheads obviously... but I could for some of it... but didn't, because I want it to feel somewhat real?

The newer version, and I'm listening to it now, is way better.. just faster, tighter.. I will post the new mix in a few days... It's just.. this newer mix is my best one ever.. and I really don't know where to take it from here. Kinda worries me.
