Default Bash it up!

Hey,

I'm 17 and have just started writing my own songs. I would like to know what you think and what I could do to make the recording better.

I use Ableton Live for mixing, Addictive Drums for the drums, all guitars are being emulated with either an Ableton sound or with Realstrat with Guitar Rig as an amp simulator, and I use a soundfont for the bass guitar.

Let me know what you think

For being a completely virtual mix, this is quite organic sounding... so your editing / arranging skills are spot on. The sounds themselves (apart from the drums) have a very "digital" edge to them - but I suspect this might be due to eq. rather than the source sounds themselves... Could be your monitoring not accurately reproducing the high midrange (1-3k), but both these mixes a very fatiguing on the ears. In the first song, you really need to tone down the hi-hat / cymbals as well... Overall these are quite creative pieces & show a lot of promise.

There is so much "mash" going on that I have trouble finding the theme. I agree with the "fatiguing" comment above. It may be just because I'm an old f@rt, but I would like to hear the parts defined more and less of that kind of white noise wash. But as far as the composition, I think you have something there to work with, I just think it could benefit from a more accessible presentation.

Maybe a nice string quartet... nah.. never mind.

I remixed the second song so it sounds a bit more clear and hopefully not fatiguing
