Re: Bash This Hip Hop Recording
As my name states, I am an OLD guy, so Hip Hop is way out of my ballpark. With that being said, I like the subtle statement of themes, especially against the doubletime sounding drums. You get points for usuing synthesizers in an understated way, not with all the brash WAH sounds and overused envelope filtering. You're lead line has a nice round, some what haunting sound, but not in a trite way. I also love that muted arpegiated thing you got going on in the background, it adds a nice amience to the recording. The only thing I didn't like was the horn patch. They sound real fake, and they really aren't doing anything interesting, especially in relation to the other cool parts. Also, the amplitude envelope on the horns takes a bit long to open up, so they sound like they are coming in slightly late on the beat (maybe you want it that way.) I had a similar thing happen on one of my recordings; I ended up deleting about four hundredths of a second from the begining of the horn track and they they sounded on-beat. Actually, I think I'd like the recording better without the horn track at all. Is there going to be a vocal track on top of this? I would like to hear any later versions of this recording you make.
