so this is my first post, and I am still working on this song, but I wanted to know what you guys thought.
By the way, I played and sang everything, so you can blame the really bad singing on me. :] (feel free to be as brutal as you want) Last edited by Kyle3210 : 07-02-2008 at 02:37 PM. |

Ok, 1st impressions...cymbals too high & harsh in mix, vocals too loud - they completely overshadow everything else when they come in. The whole mix sounds over-compressed - so much so that the drums sound "dinky" & small when the vocals come in. Otherwise the intro sounds good & I like your guitar work.

The acoustic guitar tone is very nice/the guitar work is very well done.
The drums are definitely over compressed, the compression would work IF it was mixed it quietly under the non-uber compressed drums. The vocals are just way too loud and a little dry for my tastes. You didn't really do any eq carving to this im assuming. You know these "ride over" the mix, not fit in it. -Greg |

I definately agree with the overcompression, but I find it hard to find a good balance. For instance, with any less compression on the snare, I cant get it to make that click sound.
If anyone has any tips on geting my snare to stay in the front of the mix throughout, that would be greatly appreciated. I miked the bottom and top, and have only been using the top because the bottom sounds too harsh. I have tried doubling, EQ... nothing is working thanks. |

i'm doing this review with out looking at what others say, to keep it from being bias...so i might repeat others, as i try and do all my reviews
seems that the snare is very tight...seems like a common problem, let it breathe a little more like the cymbals...but they seem like they could use a little more upper mids...don't touch that hat tho the guitar sounds great....maybe a touch of delay on it...but not so that you hear the delay but just enough to add some thing between the notes there is a little bit too much sss in the vocals |

thanks everyone for the advice, with the adjustments you have suggested, it sounds that much better.
I dont know if anyone else uses nuendo, but I have been having this problem where I will put on the waves Rverb on most of my tracks, and when I open up the project the next time, there is a little yellow button lit up next to the effect that turns it off. This happens ONLY for the Rverb plugin, and I can't get it to work after this happens. Im not sure what the button means though. I have just started using the SIR 1 reverb, and It sounds O.K, but its not even close to the Rverb. thoughts?? |
