Great vocal sound! It reminds of the band "Train" who also always has a great vocal sound.

The kick and low end maybe a little too thick. It's pushing it on this system. I'm guessing this is going to make your overall volume a little low.

Are you using a lot of parallel compression? You may want to leave the attack a little longer on the snare compressor. It gets a little to "attackish" from time to time. When I go for maximum smack in the attack, I almost always put a limiter on it too to catch the extra loud hits.

Overall, the song is.... lacking a build up in intensity. I'd like to feel more "drive" in it.

Brandon

I'll tone it down and clean it up a bit

If you mean by "parallel" compression, compressors on individual channels.. yes, and I'll limit the snare some more

I think you've hit the nail on the head here. I thought it was missing something, and that's probably what it is... Our bass/keyboard player is coming over this weekend, with his leslie, maybe it'll help. Anyways I agree, more build up to the end

Thanks

The clean guitar in the begining is a little plain for me.. Consider adding a light chorus or flange. Also, I agree with Brandon, it's a little heavy on the low end.

Also, there is an apparent buzz (from an electric guitar?) in the beginning right when the electric is first coming in. Consider cleaning up that track using the fader.

I like the vocals a lot (nice range and tone) but it sounds a little too dry in terms of effects. I would consider adding some delay especially in key parts (like on some of the high notes).

I would consider pulling the vocals down on the fader and cranking up the reverb and delay right around 3:52 when it goes into the guitar solo.

Really a cool song; again, I like the vocal tone.

Hope you don't mind my specific suggestions; these are just some things that came to mind in terms of how I would mix it...

good advice!! I'll keep working on it. I'm thinkin I could blend another guitar in the mix to drive it more, and I agree the vocals are a little loud (and rough) just before the solo. I think I can do better on those vocals. This is one of my least favourite songs on the CD so I don't spend as much time on it as I should

Keep it commin!!!

Posted, under "shape of things" When we play this live, it kicks ass, but I find the recorded version very lack luster, we're going to add a hammond on top of this, but see if you can hear what's missing

It sounds good to me. Any other changes would be issues of taste. Good job! Stamp it and move on to the next song!
