For those of you too young to know about the "BB" It was an actual building in Times Square where teams of amazing writers would chrun out one hit record after the other in small offices in the building. These heavily orchestrated (often with horns and strings) songs were refered to as teenage symphonies. Writers included Carole King, Neil Sedaka, Jeff Barry and Ellie Grenwich. Songs included "Up on the Roof", "Locomotion" and many other great hook filled songs. Some of the tunes were a bit more R&B but my song "Just Friends" is a good example of a Carol King Brill Building influenced song. That is what my songs have to do with the Brill Building. As a matter of fact on the myspace page MySpace.com - MELLOwROLL - NYC, New York - Pop / Powerpop / Rock - www.myspace.com/wwwmyspacemarc You can see a poster for the Brill Building participants if you click on the song "Just Friends" I have posted some short clips of songs in 256 res Mp3's at the link below so bash away. NEO If you're too young to know the Brill Building you may be too young to know the type of production I am looking for. On the other hand, whatever your age is a good sounding recording is a good sounding recording and as a skilled engineer I'm sure you have an opinion. Plus I'm sure everyone has heard thier share of 60's pop songs. Looking foward to more comments. Marc |

Thyrdeye I wasn't really aware of a distinctive Brill Building 'sound' as in production. Are you sure you don't mean 'wall of sound' production, like Phil Spector?

You are actually correct. Phil Spector is really a main producer of that sound. But When I say a Brill Building prouduction style I mean the production style or sound of the records written there. There were probably several producers and I don't know thier names. But Burt Bacharach was one of the writers and his songs have a very distinctive production sound. It is more of a song writing style but it goes hand and hand with certain knowledge of pop music production!
