Default 2bus compression and heavy guitar tone search

hey guys. its been a while. im studying the effects of the compressor on a master bus and also in search of a good guitar tone for my standard sound.
the track that i used here is a cover from a great composer and one of the tone kings for my taste named brohymn. i used his riff just so i could compare my tone with his. anyway i didnt get close to what his tone sounded like coz his is so sweeeet!!!.hehe but here's what i came up with. could you fill me if the tone here is good?? and could you fill me in also with some tips on compressing. heres what i did to compress this track. the ratio is 2.1:1
for the gain processor,
output is 5db, attack is 20ms, and release is 50 ms.

i'll also post the uncompressed track just so you guys would have some basis. thanks alot. hope you could help me on this guys!!!

i like it for a ctune or b? sounds like sevendust. does sound good raw but the compression brings it a little more fatness. nice job. man this shit is so addicting. i was up till 3:30 working on a song had to go to work at 7:30, oh the things we do to become rockstarz!!!!!

I think it sounds great, dude. Regardless of whether the tone compares to your ideal sound, I think it's a badass, pro sounding metal tone. I wouldn't change a thing.

Just as Maetoso said, the 2bus compression makes it a bit more aggressive and obviously louder, but I think you did great.

Wow Brian, that tone is killer! Big and in your face, sounds great! Like the others said - the uncompressed one still sounds good, just not as loud or intense.

both sound really good. is there bass in there or just guitar? what amp/guitar setup? i thought I heard the compressed version pump for a very brief second. Im not an expert, but I think you can remedy that by bringing down your attack time, raising the threshhold, or reducing the gain.

No complaints at all, I'd be beyond happy with that tone.

thanks for the feed back and kind words everybody. i'll try to adjust the compressor settings. its my first time to use a compressor. im a total nube in the compression department. hehe. i just tweaked till i got the sound of my choice when compressing the 2bus. i havent really digested yet the effects and differences of each parameter. i guess i still have to experiment more. thanks to all of you guys, im learning this stuff. never would have known about them if you all hadnt helped.. all the credits go to all of you!!!

yes there is a bass. i went for the blending of the guitar and bass instead of letting them separate. i did this to spice up the guitar tone more. i had the bass freqs leveled up to the 500hz and then sloped down till i reached 14k. i'll definitely try your suggestion. still learning how to use a comp.

ok heres my signal chain greg,

i used an ibanez RG7321 7-string guitar----->line6 x3live pedal---->yamaha AR-1500 bass amp---> mic'd it with cheap shure PG57(the begginer version of the legendary SM57) 45 deg. pointed to the center of the cone, 3in. distance--->mic preamp----->soundcard. i have no interface yet. my DAW is flstudio7.

i think the largest factor that contributed is the x3live pedal. it has a dual tone feature which allows you to get and blend the sound of 2 amps+cabs at the same time. so when recording, your tracks would be similar to a quad track with just 2 takes. but i quad tracked this one anyway because i wanted to get the variation in playing and i used each setting on my 2 tone patch for every take. if you want in depth info about the settings, just let me know. i'd be glad to share.

OH NO!!!!!SHIFT+1!!!!! 10 inch bass amp speakers work for metal! Hey Brandon, time to mic up that bass cab ahahahah!

You know the funny thing, Brian, is that the only amp I ever heard my Metal Zone sound good through was a peavey 100 watt bass combo. I think there's something about bass amps that like distortion pedals. I'm going to try one of these PODX3 live pedals soon (I played the spider valve and liked it... maybe you should invest in one of those as your first REAL guitar amp).

This tone works for you, stick with it.

i think my bass amp is only about 7-8 inches. got it for a bargain. i just traded my worn out 8-hole doc martens back from the grunge days plus 10 dollars for this amp.hehe.

yea ive used my metal zone on this amp too for about five years. i looped it with my zoom4040 coz it has a great impulse cab. it sounded more decent for my taste than when i used it with a guitar amp. it sounded more juicy. anyway ive tried using the spider valve when i was testing the x3live in the music store. it does sound great. but my budget is on the low side right now so i think i'll have to bear with my amp till i raise the money... thanks for the boost of confidence greg. i really appreciate it. thanks bro!!!
