Default Tascam US122L PLAYBACK DELAYED!!

Hi there

I am using a Tascam US 122L with cubase le 4.

All has worked fine for a year ish... now when I record a new vocal it plays back behind time. I dont know whats changed. I have no idea what latency settings I should have or buffer settings... but I am only using audio.

I dont know if this is a cubase issue or a tascam issue.
All I do is import mp3 files into cubase and record vocals. Please can someone help me?

May not be relevant but my metronome tempo when activated is way out compared to the backing track that has been imported. I may have done something wrong but I have no idea what!!!

Thanks
Charlotte

Are you direct monitoring (tascam) when recording or monitoring through cubase ?

Are you using the asio drivers provided with the tascam ?

If you are just recording one vocal track and playing one audio track,
you should be able to have a fairly low latency setting.

Try 64 or 128 samples to start with and increase if clicks and pops occur.

Hi
Yes, headphones are plugged straight into the interface when recording and listening back, is that what you meant?
On the device set up I have selected the asio drivers provided. I am recording whole songs... so includes BV's double tracked vocals... the whole vocal arrangement, but it doesnt have any baring on the playback timing weather i am at the beginning of a project with just one voacl recorded or the whole arrangement its still behind time.
Thanks for the suggestion on the latency settings, I will give it a shot, although I was told that latency doesn't affect audio... only midi?

am I changing setting through the cubase programme or the tascam software? if tascam how do i do that?

thanks for helping

No. That is not what I meant. Most interfaces come with zero-latency audio monitoring that sends audio input directly to audio output via dsp routing inside the interface.

You can also bypass the direct monitoring and monitor the output of the 2bus in cubase. In this case, the latency of the asio buffer settings impacts the monitoring delay.

Cubase allows access to the tascam asio driver configuration and you can adjust the latency in cubase.

Latency settings do affect the audio stream. The asio driver needs to buffer the incoming digital audio stream coming from the interface to allow the cpu to process the stream without audible interruption.

Thanks, Right.... thats sounding so technical for me... sorry... in beginner terms i'll tell you what I did last night, which seems to have corrected the delay....

I went into device set up and switched from Asio duplex driver (which is the default) to the US 122L driver, then altered the sample rate setting from 0 to 156.....activated lower latency...... now everything I record is on time in playback.
The problem i now have is that i'm getting 'serious error' occurred message when i stop recording anything, it saves the project as a new version and asks me to restart programme..... I now have 6 versions! I'v had this problem in the past, sporadically, but now its everytime I do anything.

Also in preferences, in 'record' all my settings are default set.... havent changed buffer rate.. which is currently at 10000ms? and record rate at 100ms?

Would be very grateful for your help

At least you are now using the asio driver that came with the tascam.

Sorry to hear about the "serious error" message.

Do you have the latest tascam drivers installed ?
Here's a link to their driver page: TASCAM

It also has a video tutorial that may help you solve your problems.

I don't own this unit and am limited in my ability to help troubleshoot the problem.
