I know most people don't own a commercial building as I do but I thought I would pass along this little piece of info to anyone that may be able to translate it to their situation. A year and a half ago I bought one of those portable signs that have removable letters where you can change the letters on it. It lets you has 13 characters on 5 lines. I bought it when myself and a group of friends held the "all candidates debate"(council and mayor) at my studio. It was our form of advertising. The sign became the talk of the town and actually made national news when I made fun of a couple of screw ups that town council did in the months to come.

The letters on these things take about an hour to change and must be done every week or two to remain effective so I made a deal with a local "citizens on patrol" group that they could advertise once every 3 weeks for free if they changed the sign every week.

A couple weeks ago I decided since I didn't have anything else to put on the sign I'd advertise the recording studio. The first sign read "Recording is not just for the rich and famous. www.smithmusic.ca". The tire kicking commenced with in 2 days. The next sign read "Record in western Canada's biggest live room". I have no idea if that is true but I haven't found anything to refute the statement.

This this has definitely made an impact. So for the next while I am going to use this sign as my "public blog". It seems to be effective.

Now I need to make plans to handle increased business.

Cheers
Paul

That's the best part! Who has an extra hour per week?

I love this idea. I hate the idea of being located in a commercial sector, but there's no denying a billboard in a commercial district is going to pull at least $600 per month. Having something similar is probably worth thousands per year. Hell, I may even do it in my rural area...depending on where the studio goes.
