I've found those cambridge mix rescue things around here as a good excuse to create a harsh little boot camp sort of thing.
Just like in any boot camp where you have to wake up at 6 in the morning and go for a run with the drill sergeant, just that I had to be the sergeant.

When I first opened up Nero wave editor, some 10 years ago and saw what an equalizer does and looks like it got my attention as something very powerful. More powerful and useful than a compressor, so it seemed. (There also was something called R-bass, I think, which is now in a waves bundle as a compressor, and it was just something to bring up the bass on bad .mp3).
