Default Re: PreSonus AudioBox USB Reviews

Quality: 8
The unit looks and feel rugged. That said, it never leaves my desk. For the price it works well (after a tedious pc cleanup of sorts).

I really like the built in input/output mix. Great for monitoring the recording direct. Perfect for a single songwriter who layers tracks. The built-in preamps are great given the market price.

Reliability: 7
I'm giving reliability a meager score due to how much I had to learn on my own about interference issues.

Things I learned last week:
1. Remove wireless cards. (noise and stuttering on playback)
2. Check AC cords for additional noise. This unit is very picky about grounds and cheap extension cords.
3. Good power supply. I replaced my old 300watt with a new 500 watt unit. That removed some noise as well.
4. If you set it up in one usb jack only use that one.

With all this things fixed - I give it a 9 for reliability. YMMV

Overall Rating: 8
I would recommend it but... be prepared to do a little house keeping in the noise and interference department. Given the market it's sold in Prosonus should include more detail about things to dial in. I had to learn on my own. The pros may know all this stuff but hey - this unit is priced for the newbie.

Overall I picked it over the Tascam unit because of the good reviews of the preamps.
