You shouldn't have to go to the trouble of exporting each track to logic- you can open the gb session in logic as if it were a logic session, and the edits/fx and instruments load in correctly.
There's a guy putting out free au plugins under the moniker 'airwindows' and there are some really great ones for using in garage band! I can't post the link (i'm writing this on a phone), but it should be easy to find.
Is your mini a g4 or intel? I have an early intel macbook, not the fastest for sure, and using the low-latency button i can set my audio interface to use 128 samples without choking the cpu.
