Re: Bad-Ass Metal Tone ain't just from Amps
Im at work and cant really listen to the clip but I will later. I agree completely that tones come from more than high priced gear.. Ive been able to get pretty good tones from a podxt. I have recorded 4 albums in my time with $10k-$30k productions and I think ive gotten better guitar tones at home. I think more tone comes from the player than it gets credit for. And in a mic'd setup there is so many technical details that affect the sound that even experts get mixed results. Also, I dont know about you all, but I was never all that comfy tracking in a room with my amp all loud, trying to hear the drums and or click through headphones (over my loud ass amp). This comfort (or lack of) affects the player and then effects the tone.. Its aweful nice to use a modeler and track in my office.. at a nice volume with a full mix of drums/bass or whatever and hear the results instantly through the monitors..
my 2c (looking forward to hearing this clip)
