Default Loading on a Vista PC for the first time

Well after three days of heartache and anguish and a multitude of asking silly questions on this website i have finally got Cubase to work on my HP laptop, I thought I should document the root causes of my issues to repay the patience of the people who took the time to answer my stupid questions and also every little bit of info helps! especially for complete green horns like me!

The basic problem turned out to be with vista Search utility searchindexer, it seemed to hicup on the install of addictive drums and throw the processor into a perpetual indexing mode. Cubase crashed due to lack of processer ! I followed the advice on thread searchindexer.exe utilizing near 100% CPU usage; suggestions from this forum tried to no avail - MSDN Forums

which helped me identify the files the indexer was tripping up on. The issue was also related to the power options I had set on the laptop. Searchindexer seems to be to inefficient to cope on power save option. You get an irritating message on Indexing Options. After selecting high power and removing certain file types from the indexer i rebuilt the search index in minutes and voila problem solved!

this is very unscientific and some readers may think this rubbish - if so i either tripped upon the solution by accident and my explanation is rubbish or I have not solved the problem. Touch wood the latter does not seem to be true! So if somebody else is struggling with Vista check Indexing Options!
