not sure if my setup would have any relevance for what your trying to do but i actually do run two computers one for tracking and one for an effects rack the second is basically set up like outboard gear via adat connection between two seperate layla 3g's connected independantly to the two computers ie one to each. works excessively well for me. keep in mind that this is my big studio set up and not my home recording setup (just a pc and a firestudio) but through that set up i can do any number of things such as creating aux sends to the effects rack group channels ect as well as sending individual wavs to the second computer for processing in say melodyne or through that machine through my outboard gear and back into the primary computer say for a group drum track to fatten them up. lots of ideas possible with that set up. perhaps this will help you or someone else.
