I've used the AT4040's as drum overheads. Although I would have preferred two small diaphragm condenser mics (the studio is working on a tight budget and we needed a good workhorse condenser for vocals at the time). I think they worked out pretty well.
Check out my attachments for a sample. Drums were recorded in a basement studio with AT4040 as overheads using the recorderman method.
