Generally speaking, I always recommend people buying an audio interface that meets their needs (via the Home Recording Soundcard Wizard) and making sure that it comes bundled with something like Cubase LE.
Since you are past this stage, I recommend you check out Reaper. I've never used it but I know many people who are VERY happy with it. I think it's like $40 for personal use.
