Yes, I too have noticed huge pops when clipping, however, I set the unit's gain levels conservatively and then seek additional gain (loudness) with my software (Sonar), plug-in's, etc. and during mastering.

Seems as if you are just aware of the potential, it can be overcome fairly easily.
