Doesn't matter... you won't get accurate monitors for $250 a pair. What's the difference between those that cost thousands, as opposed to those that cost a couple of hundred? Accuracy is likely to be the biggest factor. Can you hear the difference? I use nearfield monitors at various pricepoints from a few hundred dollars (Alesis M1 Mk2, KRK Rokit 6, M-Audio BX8A) to a grand (Tannoy Reveal Active) to three grand (Adam S2A). My observation, and its all subjective, is that out of all of these, only the Alesis monitors really suck. Some people actually like these, so I don't know whether we have a duff set, but they really sound very bad indeed. I wouldn't use them for anything other than rough edits. There is relatively marginal difference between all of the other monitors, although they do exhibit their own characteristics, leading me to believe that only a maximum of one pair is actually accurate, and they might not be. There is absolutely no doubt that the Adams sound the best (though a little shallow in the low end on their own). The KRK's are great value with a decent low end, the Tannoy's relatively close to the Adam's in terms of accuracy, and the M-Audio's, the best I could afford for home, are surprisingly good for their price.
