Wow, GBG, this is pretty cool! I think what DemonicTempest means is to use EQ to make the various instruments sound "smaller" within the mix, e.g., give each one its own particular space (am I right DT?). That way, you can "pocket" them in certain parts of the east-west and north-south arcs of the stereo spectrum.

"Smller" may also involve compressing each sound a bit more, as well.
