That would definitely be a good mic setup, although I have never tried to record without overheads. I started with this kit and it works out great and the D series mics are a good step up in quality from the F series. Maybe you could try the I-5 on the snare bottom or switch the SM57 to the bottom and try it on top. Just be sure to reverse the phase on one in the mix.
