I'm rather fond of some of the
Antress Modern Plug-ins, especially the VS-ME (1173 emulation), which I've used very effectively on vocals, and even on bass - it mashes without sounding squished, and gives a nice presence. I also like the Modern Booster (SSL EQ emulation), which doesn't sound like the SSL I remember but is very useful on guitars.
These started out pretty raw, but the latest revisions of most of them are very usable.
