Hey man,
Not real sure what this could be. Something to keep in mind though, in the digital realm 0dB is at about -12 on your meters. Eg, on my desk, when recording, levels at 0db are -12 on my interface, so if I was going for 0 on my interface I would more then likely get distortion. Try going to the cubase forum cubase.com.
