I must be missing the point or reason behind this. Is there one?
There is a HUGE point to this.

Recordingreview.com was created because in my struggle to get where ever I am in my recording journey I've been lied to a half a million times. Assholes who didn't know the answer just passed on their urban myths and confused the hell out of me to the point where I wasted years of time and tens of thousands of dollars figuring out that these myths were mostly garbage. "W A R M" is one of these bullshit words.

Let's say you are selling your bass on Ebay and you get an email from a guy. He asks "Hey dude, the bass looks good. I was just wondering if it has a "w a r m" sound. If you say it has a sound "w a r m", I'll buy it. If you say it doesn't have a "w a r m" sound, I won't buy it".

This damn "w a r m" word has caused me more damn problem with helping people with their audio engineering issues than probably any other issue. This evil word is the basis of marketing for just about every home recording product on the planet.

Some people (usually beginners) read that X mic has a "w a r m" sound in an advertisement, so they they think that this mic is superior to other mics. They may not realize that another microphone had "w a r m" in its advertisement the month earlier.

Even worse, both microphones may sound COMPLETELY different, but both use the "w a r m" word in their ads. Why? Because "w a r m" equals "good" to anyone who may be not have looked deeper on the subject. By banning "w a r m", we immediately force any beginner who may have used the "****" word to take notice to this exact thread.

"W A R M" means completely different things to different people. Some think it means "bassy". Some think it means "dull". Some talk about "tube w a r m t h" that comes from tubes distorting. The problem with this comes with tubes distorting adds harmonics in the upper mids and can actually make the sound less "bassy" and less "dull".

In the end, words are a crappy of way of describing the sound of music or audio engineering. They all have their fair share of subjectivity in them. However, I think I can live with "bright", "harsh", "thin", "dull", "bassy", and "boxy" as they have at least some sort of objective content. However, "w a r m" has absolutely no objectivity left to it at all. It has no meaning.

This is the reason I've decided that the w a r m will look like this: ****

If this sounds a little ridiculous (and I admit I laughed when I decided to do this) try dropping $2,000 bucks from your fast food job on a preamp (volume knob) that some dude in a forum said was "****" just to find out that not one of the people you have recorded even noticed the difference.
