but lets say for example that i did decide i want to fight tooth and nail for a engineering spot, what would be the best way of looking for internships or jobs in that field?
When you graduate from a recording school they have internship programs but are probably not what you think. It's cleaning the studio and getting sandwiches for the talent. Sometimes that's exactly what you want though, it gets the foot in the door and at that point anything can happen. Make friends with the engineer and overtime he may take you under his wing. When assistant engineers move up someone has to take their place and it's usually the sandwich guy. My warning is to be prepared to wait, it may happen the first week it may happen after 4 years, everybody wants these jobs and you have to be in the right place at the right time, but more importantly you have to know what you're doing when the shit hits the fan.

Don't let anyone's bitterness (mine) deter you from going to school. I'm sure you will do fine. I'm actually returning to LA to give it a second try in September.
