Default Re: re-record an old song?

I like the groove the bass is keeping and the drums are well programmed. I like most of what the guitars are doing too. I think the real room for improvement lies in the mix, the vocal melody and the arrangement.

I would recut everything. The guitar sound on the original is very digital sounding not to mention (as others have suggested) over processed with effects. If your upgrade to Sonor includes a good guitar amp plug-in or if you have a way to mic up an actual amp that would help a lot. A better drum machine or something like Superior 2.0 would help a lot too.

As far as the arrangement goes I would make the song at least 2-1/2 minutes shorter and maybe shave 3 minutes off it. The instrumental sections are (just my opinion) way too long and not all that attention-grabbing. I would probably work on the vocal melody to get a better hook.

Anyway, that's what I hear. The song has got a lot going for it. It just needs some tweaking on the arrangement and better sounds. Good luck with it.
