Re: Sleeper Guitar Amps
Another plug here for old Roland amps - I have a JC50 - the unloved smaller sibling of the JC120. Loud, clean, indestructible. Lousy distortion, usable reverb and that great 1980s chorus sound. Best of all, I paid the princely sum of 56 English pounds for it, a couple of years ago on eBay.
Another jazz amp tip, although you're unlikely to find one outside the UK, is a Peterson. They were made by a small British company in the 1980s and early '90s. Small box made from solid mahogany (very classy), two channel transistor amp with either an EV or Eminence speaker....many times better sound than a Polytone IMHO, and you can still find them on eBay for £250 on a good day. I've had mine for 18 years and it's a keeper.
